All About The Streaming of Xbox 360

Microsoft has a pretty interesting post on their official blog yesterday about the Xbox 360. It’s been pretty clear in the past few years that the console is an extremely important part of the company as a whole, but until recently it had seemed that the Xbox was still about gaming first and foremost. Other features of the Xbox experience like the Netflix app were great, but definitely a secondary priority of the overall focus. According to Microsoft, 40% of all activity on the Xbox 360 is non-gaming activity. That means that users spend close to half the time on the console watching streaming video. The Netflix application, ESPN streaming,...

Top 10 Mobile TV Moment

MobiTV released an interesting list that sheds light on what kinds of live events drive people to watch television on their phones. Turns out it’s really not that different from what drives humanity in general. Coverage of Michael Jackson’s death and memorial took spots 1 and 4, respectively. The United States vs. Algeria 2010 World Cup Soccer match was 2. Other notables: President Obama’s inauguration took a high spot, but the Sarah Palin vs. Joe Biden debate beat out Obama vs. McCain. In the marriage vs. divorce category, Tiger Woods’ confessional press conference beat out last month’s Royal Wedding. A spokesperson for Mobi said the rankings...

Samsung has unveiled the first Chromebook - the new Series 5 laptop running which will run the Google Chrome operating system. The ultra-slim 0.79-inch device was officially launched at the I/O conference in San Francisco, where Google lifted the lid on its plans for the web-based OS. The Series 5 fits in with the required Chromebook specs, offering "all-day" 8.5 hour battery life and a dual-core 1.66GHz Intel Atom processor under the hood. There'll only be 16GB of sold-state memory on board, but with Google's plans to make this a "web-only" device, that shouldn't cause too much of a problem. iOS 4.3.3 location tracking by Apple will be released soon

Apple is all set to release iOS 4.3.3, the update which will apparently fix the myriad location tracking bugs which led to such controversy last month. There’s no word on an exact release date, but the full details of the software boost have already emerged. The guys at BGR have already snagged a copy of iOS 4.3.3 and have been told it will stop the iPhone’s location data being backed up to iTunes, delete the database when a phone’s location awareness is toggled off and also cut the size of the location database. Those are some pretty hefty changes, especially considering Apple said last week that the only real bug came with the iPhone tracking...

New versions of Motorola's Atrix will be rolled out as Android "alternatives"

Future versions of Motorola's Atrix smartphone-laptop combo will be rolled out as Android "alternatives" to tablets and other newfangled devices, Motorola's chief executive said this week. The phone maker's first crack at the Atrix smartphone-laptop convergence wasn't perfect. Some Reviews said the lack of Google's Chrome operating system hurts (Atrix uses a FireFox-centric "Webtop" operating environment). And performance in the laptop configuration (i.e., the 'lap-dock") is sluggish. But that doesn't mean it's toast, considering all of the praise the Atrix 4G and laptop dock received at CES 2011. Sanjay Jha, chairman and chief executive officer...

LG Optimus 2X listed in the Guinness Book of Records

LG has managed to coerce the venerable Guinness organisation into awarding it a World Record for being the first mobile phone to hit the market with a dual-core processor. They were even awarded a shiny certificate to record their ‘achievement’. Now we didn’t count LG as Roy Castle and Norris McWhirter fans, but the South Korean giant is obviously desperate to prove they are out looking down on rivals in the processor speed race. They’ll also be equally keen to thumb their noses at their perennial Seoul-based rivals Samsung, who are soon to release their hugely capable Galaxy S 2 dual-core model in the UK. The flagship Optimus 2X was released...

Most services will be restored "within the week," Hirai said. The first PSN services...
