6 Technologies that Will Stick Around

6. Media Players

Somehow, the portable MP3 player is one of the few gadgets to defy the pending one device-to-rule-the-all convergence. Why? Smaer non-pjone form factors, jogging, and simplicity, for starters. All we know is that Apple sold a whopping 17 million iPods in the fourth qurter of 2010, thet's 3 milion more MP3 players than iPhones.

5. Landline Telephone

More and more people are ditching their landlines, but they'll never go away entirely. Service is cheap, call quality is reliable, and given how easy it is to overload mobile networks, they'll probably work better in case of an emergency. And we don't see business and corporations switching anytime soon.

4. Internal Combustion Engine

Hybrid tech is intriguing, but it's a stop-gap measure that, ultimately, is still gas-powered. With lots of oil left on the planet, slow-moving auto makers, and no good fuel alternative, we're going to be driving internal combustion engines for a long, long time.

3, 2, 1. The PC, Keyboard, and Mouse

We lump the together because in our minds, they're a package deal. We hope we 're not jinxing ourselves, but in some way, shape, or form, the dekstop computer will continue to sit at the center of our technological lives for some time to come.

Let's Have Fun with USB Gun

The trend of USB technology lately has been growing rapidly. It of course reduces the price of USB in the market. Well, that's the economics law. The Prices will decline over increasing the goods supply. But what about the USB on this one? Although introduced into the market long enough, whether its popularity is also down? I rarely, never even seen this USB used by people I knew. Try to guess why? It could be because of its shape can be problematic. Lol

Ok..let's have fun with the gun. The new standard for PC shooting games is the ACT Labs arcade light gun with deadly pixel accuracy. The sleek pistol connects via USB but also a TV version is available so you’re not left in the cold. ACT Labs’ latest technology works with non-CRT displays. The Sengital Gun senses the user’s gun motion and calculates the target point on the display. The Sengital technology is completely different from the Original PC USB Light Gun which uses a photo sensor and lens to calculate the target point when the trigger is pulled. Unlike the Original PC USB Light Gun, the Sengital Gun is not an absolute pointing device. It relies on the user’s motion to determine the target point on the screen. Bottom line – it’s compatible with plasma, LCD, TFT and project monitors!

A Solid Media Dekstop With Touch Screen

The Dell Inspiron One 2305 (Blue-ray) is an all-in-one dekstop PC with a touchscreen, blue-ray, and solid performance. Its 23-inch wide secreen (with 1,920-by-1,080 resolution) and terabyte of hard-drive space make it a good choice for those with lots of multimedia files.

Its touch interface is essentially a dock bar that sits on the Windows 7 dekstop; you can use it to launch touch apps from there. It's enjoyable to use, but not as smoothly integrated into the whole computing experiences as the touch interface on HP touchSmart 310.

With its powerful components, including a 2.4 GHz AMD Athlon II X4610e processor, the Inspiron One (Blue-ray) is a strong performer, scoring well on our PCMark Vantage test (5,354), which measures overall computing performance. The HP 310, which sports a slightly faster 2.5-GHz Athlon II X4 615e processor, scored 656 pointsfewer than the Inspiron One (Blue-ray). The HP310, however, bested the Inspiron One (Blu-ray) by mere seconds in our Handbrake video encoding test, Cinebench R11.5, and Photoshop CS5 tests.

The Dell Inspiron One 2305 (Blu-ray) has all the performance to make it a decent all in-one dekstop, but a touch PC must have the added features to make the touch functionality worthwhile. As it stands the HP TouchSmart 310 has the better applications coupled with its multitouch screen.

Intel Core i7 990X – the Fastest Desktop Chip Ever

Intel has announced the launch of Core i7 990X with 6 cores. While maintaining a brave speed of QPI from 6.4GT/s and a top TDP of 130 Watts, the 990X has a slight performance boost from Intel Core i7 980X, from 3.33 GHz to 3.46GHz for 990X.

And about the L2 cache memory, it maintains and supports each core with 256 KB, while on the L3, all six cores share 12 MB cache. As Intel claims, this is probably the fastest desktop chip on the planet.

Core i7 990X has a HyperThreading feature, which allows it to run all 12 threads at the same time. Another feature of the processor is the Turbo Boost technology. This has allowed Intel to push the CPU up to 3.73 GHz frequency when maximum performance is required.

Intel Core i7 990X Extreme Edition comes unlocked and is built on a 32nm fabrication process.

Microsoft seeking staff for next-gen Xbox

It makes sense that news of the impending Microsoft next generation console effort would be broken via social media of all places, but I’d have hoped for a more dramatic outing process. Instead we get three job ads Microsoft has placed on LinkedIn for a swashbuckling Graphics Hardware Architect, a bounty hunting Senior Architect and Performance Engineer for the Xbox Console Architecture Group and a crocodile wrestling Senior Hardware Design Verification Engineer. I honestly tried, but they still sound as exciting as a box of Scrabble.

So if you’re into full moons, long walks on the beach, “architecture analysis, key technology selection, architecture specification, communication and collaboration”, or alternatively “product definition from early evaluation all the way through high volume manufacturing” and let’s not forget “design verification and qualification of the Xbox console at the component, motherboard, and system levels”, just the typing of which makes me all tingly, then drop Microsoft a line.

3 Practical Tips in Using Technology Everyday

Standby, Hibernate or Turn off
There are times when you want to take a break after using the laptop. To further save energy, what should you do with a laptop? Standby, hibernate or turn off?

Standby have similar functions such as sleep mode for your system. The system seemed to die, but you can re-use your laptop in a few seconds after power on. You do not need to reboot, which usually takes several minutes. Only drawback laptops / PCs that use standby mode continue to consume battery energy.

Meanwhile, hibernate mode put the conditions that occur on your laptop into a temporary hard-drive file, then shut down. So, when you turn on your computer / laptop back, the file will automatically load and display exactly as before. You also do not have to bother booting. On the other hand, turn off mode is the same by turning off the computer in total, and for turning on it needs rebooting process.

Standby mode only takes a few seconds to load, while the hibernate a bit longer, about 10 to 20 seconds. Hibernate is longer, but you eliminate the risk of running out of battery energy, experienced by the standby mode.
If you just go for a time not too long, for example a few minutes only, then select the standby mode. In the meantime, if you break for quite a long pause, for example a few hours then select Hibernate. But if you're going to break in a long time, such a full day, then you should turn off only.

Longer Battery Life
Are you more likely to charge a laptop as compared to using energy from the battery? If yes, then your battery's life cycle has the potential to decrease. Especially if your laptop is constantly connected to AC power and not use the battery for long periods.

So, when you can use AC power, then dislodged the battery from the laptop. It's a little inconvenient, but certainly better than the need to replace with new battery that is expensive.

Then do not put the battery in temperatures that are too high or too cold. Temperatures that are too hot can cause the battery quickly drains energy, while cold temperatures are also less able to produce energy. Meanwhile, a new battery to be used requires a fully charged and discharged cycle several times before being able to operate with full capacity.

The importance of UPS
When you are booting up the system, but then ran out of energy or power failure, then the impact could be dangerous for your system. The risk is system can be damaged, or your PC will not boot anymore. Therefore, you need a UPS or Uninterruptible Power Supply

UPS is a device that provides the energy supply to the PC / laptop, even if occur a power failure. UPS is very important to be used mainly by PC users, because the laptop itself has a battery backup. If there is a UPS, at least you can save the documents being worked on, then turn off the computer safely.

Without a UPS, so when the power fails, your documents risk missing, even your computer can threatened not booting again.
